| I decided to
scribble something about myself, so that those that happen upon my site may
know me, and what drives me. I have "met" several with Subra connections
throughout the world because of this site, and I hope to meet many more of
you. I was born in the early 1960's
in Fort Huachuca, Arizona. My father (Glen Subra) was a soldier in Army
Reserves, and had been called into active duty. He moved from Waterloo, Iowa
to the army post in Arizona. Eventually my mother (Ardyce Schake Subra) was
able to join him. Not long after, I joined the family (with Dad, Mom, and
Jeff, my older brother).
With Dad's commitment completed, our family
moved back to Waterloo, Iowa. There my younger brother, Kurt, was born.
Shortly after Dad took a new job in Fort Dodge, Iowa, and we moved there. My
sister Renee was born there not too long after our arrival. We stayed there
for 14 years.
Another job opportunity for Dad moved us to
Cedar Rapids, Iowa when I was a sophomore (10th grade) in high school. |

Sharing Family History @ a Reunion
|
| A the
church we attended in Cedar Rapids (Galilee Baptist, now called
BlairRidge Baptist), I met the girl that I would eventually marry: Jane
Wright. I graduated high school in
1980, and entered the US Army fulltime for four years. I took my basic and
skill training at Fort Gordon (Augusta, Georgia), Airborne training at Fort
Benning (Columbus, Georgia), and Air Assault School in Fort Campbell
(Kentucky). I was stationed at Fort Stewart (southwest of Savannah, Georgia)
for my entire enlistment, and only went elsewhere for short periods for
training (Eglin AFB, Fort Irwin, Fort Bragg, Fort Campbell).
After the first six months of training, and
after I'd been assigned to HHC 2-19th Infantry in Fort Stewart (home of the
24th Infantry Division, Mechanized), I returned home on leave to see
everyone, and especially to get engaged to my sweetheart. She accepted, her
parents agreed with some hesitation (we were both 18 at the time!), and set
our wedding date for June 20, 1981.
The wedding date came, I returned home, and
Jane and I were married. That day we started an unbelievable life together.
We returned to the Fort Stewart area, and lived in several places in the
vicinity (Hinesville & Ludowici, Georgia) while I fulfilled the remainder of
my enlistment. During that time we attended 3 churches: Faith Baptist and
Victory Baptist (Hinesville), and Faith Baptist (Ludowici) and made many
friends. During those years we were in Georgia, Jane & I had our first
blessings from the Lord, our two daughters. First, our daughter Esther was
born. She was the first grandchild on either side, so she caused many waves
of excitement. Our second daughter, Hannah, followed about a year and a half
later. Esther & Hannah would become good friends as they grew. Little did we
know that they would be the first two of many children that God would send
as His gifts.
